Beyond church walls, RCI chaplains take on a specific role as agents of community transformation, organized around the real pressures facing young people in Nigeria today:
Deployed into communities affected by illegal mining and oil theft, running awareness programmes on the health and environmental costs — including how crude oil in groundwater spreads to adjoining communities, polluting aquatic life and arable land.
Working directly with idle youth to shift mindsets toward productive work, helping them register cooperatives, prepare feasibility reports, and follow them from concept selection through execution and production — leaving the community once the business breaks even.
Building relationships with youth at evening football fields, joints, and hideouts, offering a path toward total reform through evangelism and partnership with referral rehabilitation centers.
Using friendship evangelism to reach armed youth and connect them with rehabilitation support through Chaplaincy referral homes.
Sent to streets with rampant prostitution to convert souls to Christ. Saved souls undergo deliverance and are referred to rehabilitation homes to learn trade and skills.
Chaplaincy's relevance in global peace can be established if a small community is used as a pilot — demonstrating reduction in crime, increase in transformed lives, youths' love for labour, and the raising of entrepreneurs. Chaplains who combine genuine care with real discipline are uniquely positioned to reach people conventional institutions often can't.
